Pyrite
The characteristic feature of pyrite (also known as fool’s gold) is its brass-yellow or gold-coloured metallic sheen. However, these characteristics are hardly visible in specimens found near the surface, as the mineral is usually covered with a thick oxidation layer.
Pretty, shiny «mountain-fresh crystals» can be obtained by striking slate stones in the Grindelwald BE region, but also in the Lugnez GR.
