Amethyst

Alpine amethyst is extremely rare and always as second generation mineral sitting on rock crystal or smoky quartz. Often in the shape of well-developed sceptres. The violet colour is caused by ionising radiation, similar as in smoky quartz. The colour centre is bound to Fe, i.e. iron, and therefore one often finds «beetle-leg-like» inclusions of haematite.
